Totally recommend using a zigzag stitch or overlocker along the sides if using tightly woven fabrics. They fray very easily, so this additional step will prolong its life if it’s going to be washed a lot ❤️ Fantastic tutorial and easy to follow ❤️

It is awesome that you state upfront that such masks alone will not prevent catching the covid or other virus. There are too many videos that never state so and ill-informed people will think these cloth masks work on its own!

When my husband ( who is a health care provider and was an Army Medic) and I wore them, the elastic seemed to pull down on the ears and caused them to ache after a short time. We went to 8 inches and they fit more comfortably. Just wanted to share this in case anyone else has the same problem with the 7 inch.

Hi Erica- I'm brand new to sewing....a pot holder done badly. I just love this project but just can't seem to move the piece around like you don't even clip the threads but I saw you move one out of the looks like there's not even any mess all over like mine....sigh. The thread crosses over & leaves gaps from piece to piece to piece. I notice you don't back stitch. When I cut the threads they aren't secure. I have to cut the thread for each piece, cut off their threads, re insert the piece into the machine to add another one then quilt's exhausting. I've zoomed in but still see that you never take it out of the machine tlll you are done with entire panel...mine's a mess with threads all over, criss crossing etc. Really discouraged. Not for this beginner I guess :(

Hi Erica- I love this! I'm a newbie sewist & have only made a pot holder (badly) and a mat for under my machine. I started this today & I must say it looks easy but I didn't get the 1 piece centered, going a little nuts with all the stopping & starting of the little pieces + quilting them. Placement is not as easy at it looks but you are a good teacher & I am determined. Then there will be the zipper....ack! I noticed you didn't use a walking foot to get thru all that for the final round...just your 1/4" foot? (I don't have that one) I should have used the walking ft for the pot holder but was afraid I wouldn't be able to make it work. For this pouch there is a lot of material to go thru. Any advice appreciated. Tfs :)

Erica, thank you, these are great and you are a wonderful teacher. I was wondering, I watched both tutorials, one with the elastic and one with the fabric ties. You used flannel as the middle piece in one and 100% cotton as lining with the ribbons. Is there a reason for the change. I am just starting to sew these for health care workers in my area and was wondering. Thank you for you answer.
